Accordingly to a source who prefers to stay anonymous, Italian 19-year-old tennis player Stefano Travaglia fell off the stairs at his own house and got injured. He will need to take a break. His whole 2011 season has just got cancelled.
Travaglia spends most of his time in Argentina, where he lives and practises. This year he won two futures event; he is claimed to be the biggest hope of Italian ATP circuit. Earlier in the season the player suffered from a hamstring injury.
Santiago Canizares missing the World Cup after he stepped on the glass at own bathroom, Peter Polansky falling off the balcony while sleepwalking - we know these stories. They happen.
One day however, at the dark outskirts of one Polish city, we have overheard the Ukrainian coach and his players discussing how much vodka they needed for the night. On the next day the competitor with the loudest name among them for that time retired early in his match. While we suspected the casual hangover, Mariusz Fyrstenberg 's brother reported the player had fallen off the stairs in the motel and injured, if I recall correctly, a wrist. Urban legend or not, but the player indeed was forced to take a break from sport for several weeks. Fortunately it didn't disturb him in pursuing a career after all. I saw the steps in that motel. Scarily sheer indeed.
