Tuesday Report
Ramirez Hidalgo def Prodon 63 64
The real tennis player was Ramirez Hidalgo. Prodon was a bit lazy and couldnt get to work his backhand, he used to try some bad dropshots with it. Ramirez looked in form for this match, was hitting the ball very smoothly. Prodon did many unforced errors, he probably did a very ugly tank.
Mello def Rufin 64 64
Mello is a slightly more experienced player than Rufin right now. Rufin looks like a nice kid, but he didnt show a strategy plan to beat Mello, while Mello was offensive and tenacious. Good learning experience for Rufin, at least, he needs first to be able to keep up with the other players variations, then maybe he can enter the tp 200 next year.
Navarro def Pospisil 62 26 64
The most entertaining and close match of all those three. Navarro was beating well Pospisil in the first set, but suddendly he started to not be able to put his first serve into the court. Pospisil started then to play with more consistency and return well and after some tough games he broke Navarro.
It started the third set very hot so you could see the players suffering a bit. Pospisil started to feel a little bit pressured because Navarro slices were hurting him a bit, and also he wasnt as consistent as before. Navarro served very well to open 4-3 and 5-4. In the last game Pospisil and Navarro were arguing because Navarro had a match point and Jaroslav wanted to exchange all the balls. Navarro then returned a short ball, but Pospisil did a wrong smash to lose the match. I was sad the way Pospisil lost the match, he looked like a lost stranger in a beach (something a bit existencialist) struggling to bring the match to a tie break. Navarro looked cool with his head and like he was enjoying being on the court.
Wednesday Reports
A big rain fell in Sao Jose do Rio Preto this tuesday so some matches were postponed to wednesday. Lets see how they went:
Alves def Silva 6-4 2-6 6-3
The most entertaining match of the day in terms of crowd. Alves has a HUUUUUGE support here in Rio Preto because he is playing at his home club. So what can we say we could hear : Vamos Thiago all the time, since there were at least 100 people in the stands. I arrived to watch the last set specially when Silva was very very angry with himself, but still fighting. Alves was very tired and faced at least two break points when trying to close the match but still managed to win. Another hard match against Brzezicki tomorrow night.
Dutra da Silva def Molteni 6-4 6-3
Dutra da Silva is a slight better player than Molteni right now. He basically was hitting the ball very well. Molteni is a consistent player with not many weapons. Dutra was able to play a very good match and was more offensive than Molteni overall.
Facundo Bagnis def Munoz de La Nava 6-2 2-6 7-5
Funny match between two lefthanders with doublehanded backhand, you couldnt sometimes tell which was which since they looked very similar. Bagnis is much more younger and crazy, while Munoz is more calm. The quito finalist looked like he was more tired and jetlaged than Bagnis that after breaking to win the match did a big scream Aewwwwwwww!!!!!!! and then he did history because
in the next court Frederico Gil simply framed the ball away 3 seconds after this big shout to give the victory to Eduardo Schwank after a dogfight of over two hours, with victory for el Gordo Schwan by 6-3 1-6 6-4. It was simply amazing: Gil was serving with 4-5 30-40 in the last set and simply Bagnis was able to scream like an idiot to confuse Gil in the middle of the point. What can we say? Brzezicki, Junqueira and Pastor were watching and could only laugh about it. ABout the match, Gil started very badly the match, raised his level in the second set but he always looked like he was making the most effort to try to defeat Eduardo. Eduardo is more talented, but also more lazy and he said after the match both played not very well.
Duckworth def Begemann 6-1 6-4
All I can say is that the german looked lost in the court making a lot of double faults and not putting his best game into the court. Duckworth had less trouble to win this match because every time Begemann tried to go to the net the smart australian passed him easily. Duckworth might look like a robot, but more than that we can say Mantilla might be creating a monster, with a big serve and excellent groudstrokes. Huge potential.
Machado def Odesnik 6-4 4-6 6-0
Having watched only some games of this match, I can infer that Machado is in the best form he could ever achieve, hitting clean balls and being consistent. Those were always Odesnik best tricks, that tried to be offensive, but being broken in the third has left Wayne helpless, which was, until that, a very equal match.
