Rancho Santa Fe Women's Challenger 2012 Final Preview: Lauren Davis versus Julia Boserup
Two young, unseeded Americans will meet in the Rancho Santa Fe final. Julia Boserup has pulled off some big results while Lauren Davis has taken advantage of her draw to reach the final. Davis is seen as having more potential by most people than Boserup, but a win today will start more and more people wondering what Boserup has to offer.
Julia Boserup is twenty years old and needed a good start to the year. She has reached her career high ranking of 202 and will be moving up to at least 190 next week. She has won only one previous tournament and that was the 25K in Redding last year where she had to beat Davis on the road to the final.
Davis is lower ranked than her opponent, but, having already won Plantation challenger this year, is making swift moves up the rankings. Another one of many bright hopes for American tennis, she showed her mental powers in her semi final. After dropping the first set to Krista Hardebeck she bounced back and only dropped two more games in the entire match. Her powers of recovery have already been shown this year. She has come back in style from a set down on three occassions.
Davis has won five career ITF events and is probably considered a slight favourite against Boserup. Boserup though has romped her way past higher ranked players than Davis in this tournament. Having only dropped 11 games in her four matches this week she ought to be very difficult to beat.
