Marcin Gawron defeated Jerzy Janowicz in the first round of Sopot Challenger BNP Paribas Polish Open 2011. He talks about the match and a few other things.
Comment.... I think I can start from the end: I am very happy I won. The game was a bit nervous from mine and Jurek's side, it was visible; there were a few of turnarounds and simple mistakes, but on the other hand some rallies were entertaining. I was the one who won the more important points and this is what decided on my today's victory.
Didn't you get nervous at the end?
Well, it's not really like that. People who watched they saw in the second set in practically every service game I had to save breakpoints. The two double faults on match points were just a coincidence and they were related to the electric light suddenly being turned on by the umpire. I couldn't see the ball I was throwing for the serve.
Now you will play against the Belgian, Steve Darcis. Do you know anything about him?
Well, I've seen him playing a couple of times, so I know his style, but it's hard to say anything as I haven't hit a single ball with him, even at the practise session. I'll just play the best I can and then we will see.
Do you still study management or has something changed about it?
Currently it's idle. Perhaps later I'll continue, but currently I don't think about it, because so far I've been doing well in tennis; this is my priority at this moment.
What has changed about your environment during the past couple of months?
I've been practising already for a year with my first coach. I came home, two years ago I practised here, in Sopot, at the central program of the Polish Tennis Association, later a year in Warsaw, but it turned out to be intermediate... Nowhere is better than at home, since a year I've been impoving my game, noticing progress in my rank, so I think it's been positive.
