Jesse Levine out for a dental surgery - Savannah R1
They also had some rainy days in Savannah but yesterday all the first round matches were completed. Out of all the ATP draw Jesse Levine's dental surgery was what picked my interest the most. The reason needs to be personal - all my four wisdom teeth are coming out and the pain is unbearable!
They managed to finish the first round in San Remo
One round, two seeds out (Guez and Kamke), three days and litres of rain. Teimuraz Gabashvili complained about the rain last week in Ostrava; here as a top seed he defeated Sebastien de Chaunac.
It has happened several times whenever we put somebody's name in the title line he was losing in the next round. ATP Challenger site has even less luck - they can jinx every feature player they advertise. This week they try against Dudi Sela.
Top seeded Jamaican Dustin Brown won his first match on clay since September 2009 beating Egyptian lucky loser Omar Hedayet 6-1 6-4 in the first round of Cairo challenger. His last win was over a Polish player, so let's say Dustin regardless his name has very little to do with the dust. Let's see if slumping Spanish Guillermo Olaso has enough weapon to beat him.
You read it right, this was a clay tournament held in Great Britain. Eric Prodon defeated Mikhail Vasiliev in the final and reached the mark of 15 futures titles, 4 of them won this year. He has already done it in three continents in 2010.
So we have the seventh winner of the tournament and the sixth Czech. Lukas Rosol claimed the title in a dramatic final against Ivan Dodig from Croatia.
Chucho enjoying the comeback - Tunis and Rhodes SF
Nathii asked me to keep the site updated in this weekend, hard task but hopefully the level hasn't dropped that much. Chucho doesn't waste time and we also have an interesting final in Rhodes.
The second set was full of long games. The umpire called via the walkie-talkie the other umpire who was sitting in the stands, saying the battery on the PDA is low. He promised to send her a cable in the next game. After ten minutes he said: "She'll run off the battery before the game is finished!"
Forgive me being brief today, for the weekend I'm leaving the site in the loving hands of Maria and Caio and I hope to be back Monday afternoon/evening with the previews for the next week.
In the morning, players who were training could enjoy live music. But I don't think the March of the Dead Soldiers and other orchestra songs fit their taste. Then some fighter aircrafts flew over the courts almost making everyone deaf and later on, some soldiers passed outside the courts. It's April 30, the celebrations of the end of World War II when the Soviet Army liberated Ostrava.
