Sam Groth defeated John Millman in the quarterfinal of Burnie Challenger. His post match interview given to the tournament organizers is here.
Q: Sam Groth, well done, mate. You just beat John Millman, you're through to the semifinals. Played well out there.
SAM GROTH: Yea, definitely you know, I started pretty poorly --oh started unbelievably. Broke first game, felt really good and then my serve sort of, you know... didn't find it for the first service games. I was down 5-2 and he was really loving all the pace I was giving him and I wasn't making any first serves. Then I sort of found my serve a little bit and at 5-3 just started changing it up, made a lot of balls and a few high, heavy ones. He seemed to struggle with that and I had a bit of a run there, six straight games and broke early in the second and sort of served out from there.
Q: You've gone from nearly playing the number one seed, who pulled out, through to the semis. What were your expectations coming into this tournament?
SAM GROTH: I always thought coming in I was hitting the ball well. Disappointed not to get a run in the AO quallies and stuff but during that time I felt like I was playing good. I felt like I would beat most of the guys if I was playing well, serving well and same thing coming here, if I do everything right that I can win matches here, you know, one match at a time and no reason why I couldn't win this tournament.
Q: So what do you wanna focus on going into your next match cos out there you seem to be playing well. Served well, backhand especially going well too. So what are you focusing on now?
SAM GROTH: Just playing relaxed, you know. I've got a new love for tennis again. You know, really enjoying it and once I settled into the matches and stopped losing my head a little bit out there and just enjoying what I was doing... You know I love competing and if I just focus on competing and just come out play my game. I think I play Yuichi Sugita now. I played him couple of years ago in Japan and got over him so you know I've seen him play before, you know, I'm just looking forward to it.
Q: Good, great to see you back and enjoy it, mate.
