Yvonne Meusburger def
Kristina Kucova: Starting with an exchange of breaks, the first set was of a reasonably high standard. Kucova was particularly dangerous on her backhand, but she couldn't play well for long enough. Meusburger was breaking serve regularly, and more often than not with fine winners, while Kucova, as was true in her last match, was struggling to get things working on serve.
Kucova lost ten games in a row, from 2-1 up in the first to 6-2 5-0 down and then she finally found her game again. That was not before she had tried an underarm serve! (She couldn't even get that in.) Anyway, from 5-0 down she played great tennis and upset the number one seed by hanging in there. She managed to get two breaks back, but was broken in the last game to lose 6-2 6-3.
Kristina Mladenovic def
Iona-Raluca Olaru: This was an obliteration. Mladenovic was quite superb in the first set, blasting winners time and again and giving the more experienced Romanian no chance.
Olaru, understandably had a very lengthy toilet break after that and when she came back she wasn't facing quite as tough an opponent. Still, despite numerous close games, Mladenovic eased to victory. 6-0 6-1.
Tara Moore def
Marta Domachowska: High quality at the beginning and end of the first set with a lot of winners, but as is natural, a number of errors in the middle. Moore played exceptional tennis at points and as she often does in Glasgow, showed her potential. I first saw Tara when she was just 15 and the intelligent game she had then is slowly but surely improving.
The second set was more clear cut with Marta throwing in her usual array of errors. There were a few pivotal points in the second set and Moore tended to win them. The gulf between them, not as big as the scoreline suggested, but good tournament from Moore and more disappointment for Domachowska. 6-4 6-2
Claire Feuerstein def
Stephanie Vogt: Claire was impressive once more in this victory over Vogt. She has a nice serve, a solid game and a pretty good and stable attitude from what I saw. Will fancy her chances of making Mladenovic miss a few balls. For Vogt, she can leave relatively happy having backed up her main draw seeding. 6-4 6-2.
