Danai Udomchoke and Olivia Rogowska win Burnie Challenger 2012
"My coach said I can celebrate wherever I want, so I went to McDonalds," announced Olivia Rogowska (photo) after beating Irina Khromacheva 6-3 6-3 for the Burnie title. Second seeded Australian after this win should achieve a new career high (#138 WTA in 2009 so far). She specializes in playing well in 25K tournaments Down Under so this result was expected and she was a main outright favourite for TA as well.
On a men's side Danai Udomchoke from Thailand beat Australian Sam Groth 7-6(5) 6-3. For both players it was a come back after injury adventures. "Bigger and better from here," tweeted Groth. For 30-year-old Thai and former world's #77 it was the first challenger victory since... May 2009! 2012 started promising for him; he qualified for Australian Open and gave in to Gilles Simon after stretching the Frenchman to five sets.
